The Village of Marquette Board of Review met May 11, 2026, at 5:00 p.m. in Village Hall. President Art Cybul was elected chair after a nomination by Trustee Peter Michalos and a second from Trustee Tony Deiss; the board then selected Trustee Tony Deiss as vice-chair. The meeting record shows no citizens in attendance and that Assessor Brian Frank was present.
The board confirmed that required Board of Review and Open Meeting notices were posted in four public locations and on the village website. Clerk Sue Geraldi reported receipt of the Final Assessment Roll from the assessor and that sworn statements accompanying the roll had been received. The board performed a statutory review of the assessment roll and found no corrections of error under Wisconsin Statute sec. 70.43 and no open-book changes to include.
Members confirmed all required Board of Review training had been completed. The board also confirmed the village maintains Ordinance No. 42 to protect the confidentiality of income and expense information provided to the assessor under state law (sec. 70.47(7)(a)). The board reviewed recent statutory changes, including Act 151, which was noted may affect campground assessments and potential exemptions.
The board considered procedural requests during the first two hours of the session: one application for waiver of the required 48-hour notice to file an objection was submitted and denied for lack of good cause; there were no requests to waive a BOR hearing to appeal directly to circuit court, no requests to testify by telephone or by sworn written statement, and no subpoena requests. The board reiterated its adopted procedures for sworn telephone testimony and for waiver requests (policies previously adopted on July 20, 2020, July 29, 2020, and reaffirmed May 11, 2026).
With no notices of intent to file an objection and no scheduled objections to hear, the board voted to adjourn at 7:00 p.m.; the motion to adjourn was made by Trustee Peter Michalos, seconded by Trustee Tony Deiss, and passed unanimously. The minutes record that Treasurer Paula Gilbertson was absent.
