Eden board sets Halloween date, approves clerk computer replacement; municipal court judge candidate introduces himself

At its Sept. 17 meeting the Village of Eden Board approved routine financial measures, set Halloween for Oct. 25 from 3–5 p.m., approved replacing Clerk/Treasurer Kari Schlefke’s computer, and heard an introduction from municipal court judge candidate Troy Damsteegt ahead of the Nov. 4 election.
The Village of Eden Board convened Sept. 17 and approved a series of routine administrative and financial items, set the village’s Halloween hours and heard an introduction from the municipal court judge candidate.
The meeting opened with President Kevin Goebel calling the session to order and a roll call showing Kevin Goebel, Jay Baumhardt, Kari Schlefke (Clerk/Treasurer), Henry Guell, Matt Bonen, Shea Stahl, Ed Costello and Troy Damsteegt present. The board unanimously approved the minutes from the Aug. 31 meeting, the treasurer’s report, payment of bills, temporary borrowing and the building inspection report.
Under public comment and reports President Goebel shared the village call log summarizing recent police deputy responses. Troy Damsteegt introduced himself as the appointed municipal court judge and said he is the candidate on the Nov. 4 special municipal court judge election ballot for municipalities that contract with police departments.
In new business the board unanimously approved Saturday, Oct. 25, 2025, from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. as the village Halloween date. The board also unanimously approved replacing the Clerk/Treasurer’s computer; the clerk reported the device cannot update to Windows 11 and is experiencing issues that prompted the replacement request.
Board members said they are continuing to review other municipalities’ chicken ordinances; no action was taken on that topic at the meeting. In other updates the board noted the large brush pile has been taken care of.
The meeting adjourned by unanimous motion. The municipal court judge election is scheduled for Nov. 4; the board did not take further action on candidate appointments or the chicken ordinance during this session.
