South Hill Council appoints Gavin Honeycutt as vice mayor after roll-call vote

The South Hill Town Council appointed Councilor Gavin Honeycutt as vice mayor during its regular meeting on Jan. 13, 2025.
Mayor Mike Moody opened the floor for nominations. Councilor Michael Smith nominated Councilor Lillie Feggins-Boone; Councilor Ashley Hardee nominated Councilor Gavin Honeycutt. After Mayor Moody closed nominations, the council conducted a roll-call vote and voiced individual selections. Councilors Jenifer Freeman-Hite, Ashley Hardee, Gavin Honeycutt and Carl L. Sasser Jr. voted for Gavin Honeycutt; Councilors Lillie Feggins-Boone, Delores Luster and Michael Smith voted for Lillie Feggins-Boone. With four votes to three, Gavin Honeycutt was declared vice mayor and Mayor Moody congratulated him.
The nomination-and-roll procedure replaced a formal motion at the dais; the record shows the choice was decided by the councilors’ voiced roll-call selections. The appointment takes effect immediately. The council continued with the rest of its agenda, including administrative reports and nominations to boards and commissions.
