Public works, police and clerk reports note spring maintenance, police equipment rollout and small fee changes

Public Works Assistant Nathen Nelson said crews removed two boulevard trees on South Main Street that were damaging sidewalks, completed street sweeping, assisted with Community Clean-Up Day and began seasonal mowing; streetlight repairs were completed by Backwoods Electric and Nelson attended MSHA training through Pierce County.
Chief Darren Ekholm told the board the Police Department responded to 29 calls for service in April (with an additional 14 calls handled by the Pierce County Sheriff's Office). The department has received Axon equipment and implementation is underway; Chief Ekholm also reported issuing three citations, completing monthly state reporting, receiving a grant-funded preliminary breath test device and beginning to issue junk notices.
Clerk/Treasurer Holly Malaszuk said the replacement water meter charge will increase from $300 to $350 to reflect current equipment costs and recommended that monthly reconciliation reports be reviewed by a board member or the Personnel and Finance Committee for added oversight. Additional administrative updates included the Board of Review scheduled for May 18 and new office hours of 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.
Pam Marson reported the Elmwood Public Library is obtaining bids for a handicap-accessible push-button opener for the front entrance.
