Council accepts January reports; finance director reports $11.6 million in general fund balance

At the Feb. 10 meeting the South Hill Town Council unanimously accepted a package of January 2025 reports including the Town Manager's facilities calendar, Police, Fire, Municipal Services, Code Compliance, Business Development and Human Resources reports.
Finance Director Dahlis Morrow reported fund balances: General Fund $11,625,451.13; Total Investment Accounts $27,391,155.19; Water and Sewer Fund $51,452.70; Cemetery Fund $19,771.45; delinquent taxes $646,061.51; total in checking $11,696,675.28. Chief Greg Geist reported 251 activity incidents, 30 reportable criminal offenses and 1,218 calls for service for the reporting period; property recovered totaled $140,850. Fire Chief Michael Vaughan reported 233 total alarms from Oct. through Dec. 2024 with 122 responses in town and 107 in the county district.
Code Compliance reported inspections completed (45), permits issued (24), fees collected ($24,936.63) and work value reported of $5,293,615. The minutes list several new or newly owned businesses including Single Output (retail), Pomp Boys Motors (automotive dealership and repairs), Marino's Pizza (new owners), Deacon Jones Honda and Deacon Jones CDJR of South Hill (auto dealerships), and South Hill Submission Grappling (jiu-jitsu school).
Council moved to accept the reports as presented and the motion carried unanimously.
