Public works director outlines street projects, splash pad opening and facility updates

Mike Moroz, director of public works and parks, briefed the council on several ongoing infrastructure and parks items. He said the mill-and-overlay and reclaim street projects approved last month are starting now that school is out and that access for property owners will be maintained during construction. He described stabilization work on the 6th Street steps and said a custom railing is on order for installation in early August.
Moroz reported the splash pad has been opened softly after recent concrete and shade-structure work; the crew plans to sod the area and pour concrete pads for picnic tables. He noted a misalignment between the advertised hours (10 a.m.'7 p.m.) and the motion-activated system settings (11 a.m.'8 p.m.) and said staff is working with the installer to correct signage and online information.
He also reported a punch-list remains for the public works facility with another 2 to 3 weeks of work before closeout, and said staff will move departments in stages to manage workloads. Councilors asked about notification to neighborhoods for maintenance projects; Moroz said letters will be drafted and mailed.
