The Evansville Common Council approved multiple planning items on July 9, voting unanimously to adopt updates to Chapter 130 (Ordinances 2024-04 and 2024-05) and to approve several land-division and rezoning applications.
Alderperson Cory Neeley moved each measure with Alderperson Jim Brooks seconding during the Plan Commission report. Community Development Director Colette Spranger reviewed staff recommendations and noted clerical "scriber" errors in sections of the code and discussed topics including convenience-store siting, exterior lighting, enforcement and penalties.
The Council approved land division LD-2024-06 (Stonewood Grove Lot 4) after a motion to include the conditions from the staff report and an amendment; that item passed 6-0-1 with Alderperson Joe Geoffrion recused. Council also approved LD-2024-07 and rezoning RZ-2024-02 to rezone Lot 1 (123 N. Fifth Street) to B-1 (Local Business) and approved rezoning RZ-2024-03 and land division LD-2024-08 to split Lot 7 of the Historic Standpipe Point plat into three lots; the latter measures passed with an amendment tying adoption to Ordinance 2024-07 and showed the same 6-0-1 recusal pattern for Geoffrion where noted.
The Council recorded no dissent on the ordinance adoptions and land-permit motions; all actions that carried were approved by roll call or voice vote as amended.
