Ladue council approves broader schedule for school-district lighted field, caps winter use

The Ladue City Council on Sept. 16 approved an amendment to the Memorandum of Understanding and a corresponding update to the Special Use Permit for the Ladue School District's lighted athletic field at 1201 S. Warson Road.
City Planner Andrea Sukanek told the council the updated MOU removes outdated construction requirements and increases the number of permitted lighted events from 31 to 50 annually. Use of lights will be limited to months when school is in session, explicitly excluding December through February, and the lights and sound system will remain restricted to District teams. The MOU allows lights to be used 30 minutes before and after events.
Council action: Council Member Harold Burroughs moved approval of the MOU amendment, and Council Member John Howell seconded; the motion passed unanimously. Council Member Patrick Hensley then moved approval of the amended Special Use Permit (ZPC17-09); upon second by Council Member Howell the motion passed unanimously.
Why it matters: The change was presented as an effort to balance scheduling for girls' athletic programs such as lacrosse while maintaining limits on regional or non-District use of lights and sound. The council record shows no public opposition during the hearing.
Next steps: Staff will update the Special Use Permit documentation to reflect the new MOU terms.
