Singletary elected chair; Benton chosen vice chair of Bladen County Schools board
Summary
After ballots, Mackey Singletary won the chair race by 5–3 and Tim Benton won the vice-chair race 6–3; the board recorded eight ballots for chair and nine ballots for vice chair and administration will assign committee roles.
The Bladen County Schools board completed its annual organization during the meeting and elected Mackey Singletary as board chair and Tim Benton as vice chair.
Following nominations for chair, the board cast eight ballots; Dr. Atkinson read the results: "Election of board chairs, mister Singletary, 5 votes. Mister Rota, 3." The board then proceeded to a vice-chair ballot (nine ballots cast); the tally given on the record was Tim Benton 6, Anthony Thomas 3. The chair and vice-chair results were announced and the new chair assumed the floor.
The board chair asked members to submit committee preferences so the chair can make committee appointments; administration reiterated that committee assignments and committee chairs will be designated by the chair and published to members in advance.
