The Ogdensburg Mayor and Council voted Oct. 16 to replace the steam boiler at the borough's historical building, approving a motion by Councilman Salvatore Nasisi to hire Mark Lindsay & Son for the work at a cost of $8,813, including running a gas line, required permits and a chimney liner. The motion was seconded by Councilman Nardini and adopted by roll call; Councilmembers Alvarez, Nardini, Nasisi and O'Dell voted yes.
Councilman Nasisi presented two quotes and recommended full replacement rather than a partial repair. He told the council the all-inclusive quote for a new unit was $8,813 and that the installation includes a one-year warranty. Borough Attorney Robert McBriar said the award would be subject to his final review and the Chief Financial Officer's approval of funds.
Council members discussed the age of the existing boiler, estimated at about 20 years, and weighed replacing the unit versus narrower repairs such as a 'gun' change-out. The council approved the replacement motion to avoid near-term reliability risks and to secure the inclusive quoted price.
The contract award is to be finalized after counsel and CFO verification; the work will require permits and utility connections and will be assigned to the department overseeing building maintenance.
