Ladue council approves routine financial items, extends holiday lighting contract and hears resident concerns about speeding

At its Aug. 19 meeting the Ladue City Council reviewed and filed routine financial reports for July 2024, approved the vouchers for payment, and approved an extension to the holiday lighting contract at a reduced cost.
Council Member William Brennan moved to approve the July vouchers; Council Member John Howell seconded and the motion passed unanimously. The council ordered the collector's, treasurer's, cash flow, delinquent real estate tax and investments reports filed for information.
On procurement, the council approved extending the contract with St. Louis Christmas Décor for holiday lights covering four properties on Clayton Road and the City Hall property. The two parties agreed to reduce the contract from $10,000 to $8,800, attributed to fewer trees at one property; Council Member Harold Burroughs moved the extension, Council Member Brennan seconded and the motion passed unanimously.
In public forum, Michael Koch of 7 Granada Way urged the council to pursue more permanent traffic-control measures in his subdivision, saying temporary steps like increased patrols and speedometer devices had not been effective and citing recent efforts by Brentwood as a possible model.
The council recognized Ivan White, the city mechanic, for 25 years of service and thanked him for his dedication.
Later the council voted to enter closed session under RSMo. 610.021(1), (13) and (3) to discuss litigation, legal communications and personnel and employee matters. Council Member Patrick Hensley moved to enter closed session; Council Member Harold Burroughs seconded. A roll call recorded votes of "Aye" from Council Members Brennan, Burroughs, Hensley, Howell and Kamps, and with five ayes the council entered closed session at 5:26 p.m. The council returned to open session at 5:53 p.m. and adjourned at 5:55 p.m.
