Fennimore council swears in mayor, elects council president and approves $722,021 in claims

The Common Council of the City of Fennimore convened its organizational meeting April 21, 2026, at 5:30 p.m., where Mayor Ryan Boebel called the session to order and proof of oaths was presented for newly elected Mayor Rob Krantz and Ward 3 Alderperson Todd Lippert.
Council members approved the meeting’s public notice and agenda, then elected Dave Streif as Council President on a motion by Day and a second by Strack; the motion carried 7-0. The council also designated Clare Bank, Community First Bank, Peoples State Bank and MidWest One as public depositories and named the Fennimore Times as the official newspaper for required publications.
On financial business, the council approved claims dated April 21, 2026, totaling $722,021.23 with City bills at $514,421.49, Utility bills at $160,578.95, Sewer bills at $43,590.79, TIF-CDBG at $1,600.00 and Capital Projects at $1,830.00. Several gross payroll totals for March and April were presented to the council as part of the approval process; the motion to approve claims passed on a roll-call vote of 7-0.
The council approved committee assignments for the coming term: Personnel & Administrative (Hagen, Roth, Adam), Property & Infrastructure (Lippert, Strack, Day) and Finance (Streif, Kretschman). The minutes from the March 16, 2026 regular meeting were approved as presented.
On capital-project contracting, the council awarded the library loose furniture bid to Henricksen for $82,187.04 (including alternates) and the shelving bid to Library Furniture International for $117,926.43; both awards were approved on a motion by Strack and second by Streif and carried on a 7-0 roll-call vote. Library Director Cathy Smith told the council the contractors "believe they’ll be finished by the end of August," and reminded members that the grant requires project completion by Sept. 30, 2026.
The council also approved Ordinance 2026-04-21 to repeal and recreate Chapter 12 on a motion by Adam, second by Day; the motion passed 7-0.
Council business included a brief discussion of an emergency alert siren on the city’s east side after recurring fuse failures; an estimated purchase-and-install cost of $35,000 was cited. According to Jason Kreul, Fennimore Times editor, Grant County Emergency Management Director Steve Braun said the sirens "are designed to be heard by people who are outside, and alert them to seek shelter."
The council moved into closed session at 6:56 p.m. to discuss personnel and returned to open session at 7:25 p.m. The body then approved hiring a new street maintenance worker to start at level two. The meeting adjourned at 7:26 p.m.
