At the Dec. 13 meeting the Afton Town Council formally appointed Jason Romberg as Afton Police Chief and Jonathan Teichert as Town Administrator after a motion by Councilman Bill Hoopes and a second from Councilman Rick Merritt; the motion carried.
Officer Jake Bird updated the Council on recent arrests, including DUIs and a fraud case, and said officers are addressing vehicles parked in the town right-of-way to facilitate snow removal. Director of Public Works Joshua Peavler reiterated the town ordinance that prohibits parking in the right-of-way between 2 a.m. and 6 a.m. for snow removal purposes.
Chief Romberg thanked the Council and the department for their work during the selection process. He said a state grant is in place to reimburse overtime for officers working special patrols and reported that the department purchased used Wyolink-compatible radios from the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, thanking the sheriff’s office for assistance.
