The Stephens City Town Council voted March 18 to award the renovation contract for the Stephens City Old Schoolhouse to Kee Construction Services, Inc., town officials said.
Town Manager Mike Majher told council members that the town had received approval from the U.S. Department of Agriculture to select a bid and award the contract and that the USDA and the town—engineers had reviewed the bids and recommended Kee Construction Services, Inc. as the selected contractor. Town Attorney Dave Griffin provided council with a history of the Old Schoolhouse to inform the decision.
Councilor Swygert-Smith moved to accept Kee Construction Services—bid to complete all work on the Old Schoolhouse. Mayor Michael A. Diaz called for questions; none were offered before the council voted. The motion carried with the following recorded vote: L. Fravel—Aye; P. Fravel—Aye; Smith—Aye; Stevens—Absent; Swygert-Smith—Aye; Woodruff—Absent.
After the vote, Mayor Diaz thanked Vice-Mayor Fravel for the work he and prior council members had put into the renovation project. Later in the meeting Vice-Mayor Fravel moved to adjourn; the motion carried and the special meeting ended at 6:06 p.m.
