Stephens City identifies sewer infiltration sources; three bids received for two projects as USDA reviews school paperwork

Town Manager Mike Majher told the council Oct. 1 that sewer camera inspections have identified a number of issues in the system, including three major sources of infiltration that will be addressed in upcoming projects.
Majher said the town has received three bids to cover two sewer projects and that staff are evaluating proposals. He also said staff have contacted a company to demo a camera system to determine whether the town should purchase its own equipment for ongoing inspections.
Separately, Majher reported that the USDA has acknowledged receipt of all required school paperwork and that the package has been sent to USDA attorneys; he said about seven companies have expressed interest in bidding on the school-related work.
Majher also noted several community events and local logistics: the Community Veterans Fair on Oct. 5, Trunk or Treat on Oct. 26, a Newtown Mercantile soft opening with a future ribbon-cutting, and the town’s Coffee with the Cops the following morning. The minutes show no formal votes tied to the sewer updates; council will proceed with bid review and next procedural steps as required.
