Mayor Rachael Slater told the Borough of Ogdensburg council on Jan. 8 that work on the Heater Pond Dam is scheduled to begin the week of Jan. 22 and that the contractor still plans to have the pond refilled by about mid-March, though the borough’s engineer had identified some outstanding issues.
"I spoke to Gene Buczynski, Engineer and there were some issues, they are suppose to start the week of January 22, they still plan on being done and have the water filled back up by the middle of March," Mayor Slater said during Old Business.
The update was presented as part of the meeting’s Old Business segment; no formal action or vote was taken. The council did not identify additional funding or timeline changes at the meeting. Mayor Slater said she had the schedule and would follow up with the engineer as needed.
Why it matters: Dam repairs can affect public safety, local recreation and downstream water management. The reported schedule gives residents an approximate timeline for when construction activity and lowered water levels will occur, and signals the borough’s intent to proceed with a planned repair project.
Next steps: Mayor Slater and borough staff will monitor the engineer’s outstanding concerns and the contractor’s start date; the council did not set additional hearings or votes on the repair at the Jan. 8 meeting.
