Parks committee schedules Springs Park grand reopening for Aug. 7 after sod, grant concerns

The White Sulphur Springs Parks Advisory Committee voted on June 24 to hold the Springs Park grand reopening on Thursday, Aug. 7, 2025, after weighing volunteer timelines for sod installation and concerns about grant expectations.
Emma Hensley presented a flyer showing a July 10 date but Liaison Pattie Berg reported volunteer Shane Sereday offered labor and donated sod only after completing required irrigation work. Berg said Sereday “does not recommend installing the sod before the 4th of July” and noted that once sod is installed it needs to remain wet and should not be walked on for about two weeks.
The committee discussed the effect of another delay on two grants. Berg said she worried that “another delay may create a negative perception with T‑Mobile,” while members noted the Thrivent card “doesn’t expire for two years” and Berg said she had contacted Thrivent to confirm the card’s active period.
On a motion by Jen Frazer, seconded by Jordan Kibbee, the committee voted to set the grand reopening for Aug. 7, 2025. Committee members assigned volunteers and staff to continue planning and follow up on logistical details, recognizing the need to coordinate final landscaping with event timing.
The committee’s next meeting is July 8, 2025, at 5:00 p.m. at City Hall; members will continue collecting estimates and confirm resources needed to stage the reopening on the new date.
