Council hears update on Stuart downtown revitalization designs and façade loan terms

Town Manager Bryce Simmons updated the council on Feb. 18 that the Stuart Downtown Revitalization Project is in the active design phase. He said Hill Studio is drafting designs for signage, a deck/bandshell and building facades, and that he recently met with property owner Lora Mahaffey to review plans.
The council discussed the Beasley building, which Mr. Simmons said is currently for sale. Council members confirmed that the program's façade-improvement loans are structured as five-year forgivable loans that transfer as liens if a participating property is sold, meaning loan obligations would remain attached to the property after sale.
No formal design approvals or funding votes were taken at the meeting; staff and the design consultant will continue drafting materials for future council review.
