Weston County School District #1 board approves routine consent items and NSBA dues despite three opposing trustees

The Weston County School District #1 Board of Trustees approved routine business and several motions at its Jan. 29, 2025, meeting, including the consent agenda, payroll and fund warrants, and payment of National School Boards Association dues for 2025.

The meeting returned to open session at 7:33 p.m. after an executive session. The board then approved the agenda and moved through recognitions and visitor comments before voting on routine items. Trustee Billy Fitzwater moved to approve the consent agenda, which included minutes, payroll and bills, and a home-school recognition for Amber Martinez; Trustee Jason Jenkins seconded and the motion carried. The consent agenda included a series of warrants (General Fund warrants #690781–690884: $280,950.55; Activity Fund #12520–12551: $34,734.90; Major Maintenance #3129–3134: $36,722.45; BOCES #2919–2920: $1,006.41; Lunch Fund #6288–6292: $47,944.15; Federal Fund #17379–17393: $82,506.37; and multiple payroll warrants and EFTPS transfers totaling several hundred thousand dollars).

Business Manager Angie Holliday presented the second-quarter financial report covering October–December 2024; Trustee Dana Gordon moved to approve the report, Trustee Jason Jenkins seconded, and the motion carried.

On membership, Trustee Billy Fitzwater moved to approve paying NSBA dues for 2025; Trustee Joe Prell seconded and the motion carried. Trustees Paul Bau, Jason Jenkins and Sean Crabtree were recorded as opposing the motion. The board did not record a roll-call tally beyond the named opposing trustees in the minutes.

The meeting concluded with reports from administrators and the superintendent and was adjourned by Chairman Dana Mann-Tavegia at 9:14 p.m.
