Northmoor secures $6.8 million grant to widen AA Highway, add bike lane and sidewalk

Mayor Lynda Wilson told the Board of Aldermen that the city had received a $6.8 million grant to widen AA Highway and extend Waukomis Drive westward. The project, which MODOT has already approved, will close ditches, add underground drainage, install a dedicated bike lane, build a 4-foot sidewalk near the city sign and create green space; construction is expected to begin in spring 2025.
"We will close the ditches, underground drains, install a bike lane and a 4' sidewalk," Mayor Wilson said, adding that some trees near the front of the park will be removed and that the changes could upset some residents. She said the city hopes to eventually tie in adjacent side streets to the improvements.
The mayor said she discussed the grant process with Platte County Administrator Wes Minder and characterized the award as a significant multi-million-dollar investment in the city's transportation infrastructure. The board did not record further formal actions on the project at the Nov. 5 meeting; the discussion served as an update to elected officials and the public.
The project description provided to the board specifies stormwater improvements and right-of-way work that will extend the roadway farther west on AA Highway. A timetable given at the meeting sets a start in spring 2025, subject to any remaining permitting and contractor scheduling. The board did not provide a detailed funding breakdown at the meeting.
