Spencer County Fiscal Court approved the hire of Valorie Hume as the county treasurer and voted to move the current treasurer to part-time during a special called meeting June 25.
Judge Executive Scott Travis requested the court—s approval to hire Hume as a full-time treasurer at $28.00 per hour, with a start date of July 20, 2026, pending completion of hiring requirements. The motion to hire Hume was made by Esq. Cotton and seconded by Esq. Stump; the court voted in favor by voice vote and the motion passed.
The court also approved changing incumbent treasurer Cheri Patrick from full-time to part-time effective June 30, 2026. The motion to change Patrick—s status was moved by Esq. Cotton and seconded by Esq. Stump and passed by voice vote. The minutes record that Patrick may assist with transition activities in July.
Motions throughout the meeting were recorded as passing "with all members of the Court present voting 'aye'," with the written record also noting one member (Esq. Eldridge) absent. (The meeting minutes show an inconsistent roll-call line that lists Judge Executive Scott Travis as absent; the court minutes separately show Travis presiding at the start of the meeting.)
No formal discussion or debate about salary or qualifications was recorded in the minutes beyond the hiring motions. The court did not schedule further action related to the treasurer hiring during the special called meeting.
The court adjourned at 6:09 p.m.
