Epping commission eyes Student Conservation Association crew and Eagle Scout partnerships for trail and habitat work

Chair Liz Wilson told the commission there is an opportunity to host the Student Conservation Association's NH Conservation Corps for work between June and October on projects such as timbering, stone work and habitat restoration, but the town would need to propose a project and provide housing for the crew.
"The team of students would need to be housed," Wilson said; Commissioner Shannon Morin called the corps "a good option to explore perhaps next year," while Vice Chair Dan McCombs suggested asking other towns about their experience at the next Rockingham Conservation Commission Roundtable. Wilson said she will invite a corps representative to the next meeting to discuss past projects, expected budget and references.
Commissioner Jeff Leombruno said he had been asked whether the Commission would support Eagle Scout projects; the Commission agreed it would be amenable to partnering and paying for materials if an Eagle Scout proposed a clearly defined project. The Commission noted that some towns keep prioritized lists of projects to facilitate volunteer deployment.
The Roundtable meeting was announced as virtual and scheduled for 6/25/26 from 5:30-7:00 PM; commissioners said learning from neighboring towns could inform how to structure and host summer crews.
