Engineers seek permits for ~2,000-foot Route 125 water-main extension for fire protection

Joe Coronati of Jones & Beach Engineers told the Town of Epping Water & Sewer Commission on April 7 that his firm wants authorization to apply for state permits to install roughly 2,000 feet of water main north along Route 125 to provide fire protection for two new properties.

The proposal, presented during the commission’s appointments portion of the meeting, would place the main in the state right-of-way, include two fire hydrants and could require booster-pump stations. Coronati asked the board to sign a letter authorizing Jones & Beach to apply for the necessary permits; the commission approved that authorization by voice vote (motion by Commissioner Tom Dwyer; seconded by Chairman Adam Munguia; motion carried 3-0).

Why it matters: extension of water service along Route 125 would provide dedicated fire-protection infrastructure for the two parcels and could affect future operations and maintenance responsibilities. The engineers noted booster pump stations may be required depending on final hydraulics; the record shows the board and staff discussed ownership concerns, and the project as presented does not commit the town to owning any booster station.

The water-main plan will require state review and permitting before work can proceed. The commission did not set a construction schedule at the meeting and asked staff to proceed with the authorization request so the engineering firm can pursue permits.
