Parks Advisory Committee provisionally adopts FY25-26 plan and elects new officers

On July 8 the Parks Advisory Committee provisionally adopted its FY25-26 plan and unanimously elected Emma Hensley as Chair and Jordan Kibbee Luell as Vice Chair for FY25-26. The committee assigned follow-ups on Spike’s Happy Trails fencing, ADA-path research, Rader Park vault toilet timing and fundraising.
The White Sulphur Springs Parks Advisory Committee provisionally adopted its FY25-26 plan and elected officers for the upcoming fiscal year during its July 8 meeting.
On motions made and seconded from the floor, the committee unanimously elected Emma Hensley to serve as Committee Chair for FY25-26 and Jordan Kibbee Luell to continue as Vice Chair. The Committee provisionally adopted a set of goals drawn from the Parks Master Plan implementation section and asked Liaison Pattie Berg to prepare a memo summarizing the plan for the Mayor and city clerks ahead of the City Council’s July 15 budget discussion.
Committee business included project follow-ups: Chair Tressa Blair will meet with contractor McRae Freeze on July 10 to get a fencing estimate for Spike’s Happy Trails; Jen Frazer will research materials and costs for ADA-accessible pathing used by the Forest Service; Liaison Berg will follow up with the Golf Board on cross-country trail signage and with Girl Scouts and other volunteers for Adopt a Spot sites.
The liaison report also noted that HB355-funded projects are progressing: McStravick Park parking pad and path work will be completed at season’s end, and a vault toilet at Rader Park—funded by HB355—was scheduled for installation in October. The committee discussed fundraising options, including PayPal donations, the Red Ants Pants Foundation, the Bair Family Foundation, and the Trex NexTrex recycling challenge; it unanimously adopted the fundraising approach presented at the meeting.
The committee set its next regular meeting for Aug. 5, 2025, at 5:00 p.m. at City Hall.
