Springs Park renovation nears completion; grand reopening set for Aug. 7 in White Sulphur Springs

The White Sulphur Springs Parks Advisory Committee heard on July 8 that renovations at Springs Park are nearing completion and that a public celebration is planned for Aug. 7.

City Council liaison Pattie Berg reported that sod was scheduled to be installed shortly after July 4 and that the Springs Park renovation was expected to come in at, or under, the current $93,990.96 budget. Berg said work funded by a T-Mobile grant was progressing and that local donations and volunteer labor had reduced the project’s cost pressures: Shane Seraday donated employee labor and provided sod at cost, and Mikesells donated gravel for drainage. Berg credited city crew members Henry Kinnick and Jake Gregory for on-site work and said volunteers would be asked to assist with lifting and moving items that weigh about 25 pounds.

Jordan Kibbee Luell and Emma Hensley outlined plans for food, activities and a finger-painting area for the celebration; Berg said she would prepare jersey barriers for the finger-painting, supply water and cleanup items, invite a T-Mobile representative, and begin marketing once the sod was in place. The committee set an end-of-project celebration date of Aug. 7 and a target turf-install date of July 10.

Berg also noted plans to advertise and publicly thank contributors, and requested volunteers for set-up tasks on the installation and celebration dates. The Parks Advisory Committee will continue to monitor remaining work and begin marketing once the sod is installed.

The committee’s next regular meeting is scheduled for Aug. 5 at 5:00 p.m. at City Hall.
