Committee weighs grand‑reopening timing tied to ADA work, stresses professional installation for playground equipment

Liaison Pattie Berg told the Parks Advisory Committee on June 5 that ADA access promised under a T‑Mobile grant may not be complete in time for the planned Springs Park grand‑reopening, and she recommended postponing the celebration until the work is finished.
Jordan Kibbee and Emma Hensley are coordinating the grand‑reopening plans; the Chamber indicated it would be amenable to holding the reopening in conjunction with the first Farmer’s Market if timing permits. Berg said she planned to meet with the Mayor and would inform Thrivent and any invited T‑Mobile representative about potential delays.
Berg reported that a new crew associated with Jason Harris at Landscape Structures is expected to begin work on Springs Park around June 15. Regarding Bair Park, the Mayor had suggested using volunteers to assemble equipment, but the Committee expressed liability concerns and emphasized that playground equipment should be installed by professionals; volunteers might be used for non-technical tasks. Berg agreed to explore contracting options and share them with the Mayor.
The Committee also discussed signage: members of the Frazer family will build backstops for attribution and playground-rules signs; Liaison Berg will send sign dimensions to Jan Frazer and coordinate placement with City staff. On appointments, the Committee reviewed a letter of interest from Dudley Deal; Jen Fraze moved to recommend approval of Mr. Deal’s application. If accepted, appointments are expected to be confirmed by the City Council at its June 17 meeting.
In other business, committee members noted that smoking stations have been installed at Springs and Radar parks and Berg is arranging repair of the tennis net. The next Parks Advisory Committee meeting is set for Tuesday, June 24, 2025, at 5:30 p.m.; Berg offered to host a year‑end celebration at her home.
