Selectmen approve resident’s driveway extension onto Town land

The Greenland Board of Selectmen voted unanimously April 6 to allow a resident to extend a private driveway onto Town-owned land behind 51 Great Bay Road, subject to a signed written agreement.
Resident John Pearl requested permission to extend his driveway 25 feet by 75 feet. Engineer Bruce Scamman of James Verra Associates and Emanuel Engineering presented a survey and design showing the extension aligned with a potential future Town road and including a turnaround for usability. Town Administrator Tara Tucker told the Board the extension would not require a formal easement and that the land would remain Town-owned.
Paul Stanley moved to grant the request and Stephan Toth seconded. The motion carried with all members voting in favor. The Board required a written agreement to be signed by both parties to formalize the arrangement and noted the Town retains the right to alter or repurpose the parcel in the future, consistent with other Town roads.
No permitting specifics were decided at the meeting; the Board said standard permits, including a driveway permit and zoning compliance, must be obtained before construction proceeds. The approval authorizes the Building Inspector to move forward with permitting steps once zoning requirements are satisfied.
The Board did not set construction dates at the meeting.
