The Palmyra Board of Public Works on May 1 approved a $17,190 contract with Heggemann Inc. to install three pump base elbows at the city sewer plant, after Superintendent Brent Abell reported one elbow is in critical condition and the other two are worn.
The motion to accept the Heggemann quote was made by Tim Browning and seconded by Gary Stuhlman; the board approved the measure on a call of ayes and nays. President Ernest W. Boulware presided over the meeting at Palmyra Council Chambers.
Abell provided a series of operational updates. He said Heimer Construction has completed the roof on the new inventory building and only downspouts remain to be installed; employees have upgraded the building’s interior lighting. Abell said the floor joists and subfloor materials for the inventory building were expected to be delivered around May 8. He also reported that scrap from the power plant had been taken to B & W Truck.
On maintenance and public-safety work, Abell reported three of four fire hydrants previously cited as in critical condition have been replaced and the fourth was scheduled for replacement on May 2. He also said the electrical box on Dryden has been replaced. The board noted it continues to recruit for a water/sewer maintenance position.
The board referred a reported incident of a resident driving on a utility easement to the City Council for follow-up. President Boulware appointed Tim Browning to serve on a committee to represent the board’s interests regarding initial infrastructure costs associated with implementing a subdivision.
Routine business at the meeting included approval of the agenda (motion by Boulware, seconded by Stuhlman), approval of minutes from the April 17 meeting (motion by Browning, seconded by Gerry Maas) and approval of bills for the electric, water and sewer departments (motion by Browning, seconded by Stuhlman). With no further business, the meeting adjourned at 6:00 p.m.
