Palmyra parks director reports progress on trail grant, pool inspection and new software ahead of July 3 fireworks

Park Director Doug Meyers told the Palmyra Parks & Recreation board on June 17 that the city has approval to use Klingner as the plan engineer for the Missouri Trail Grant and that Klingner will prepare draft bid documents.

Meyers said the community pool has been performing well despite cooler weather. Jeff Arp of MIRMA inspected the pool and found it in good condition, noting only that depth markings around the pool need to be repainted.

Meyers reported the process of building new park management software is progressing and that point-of-sale machines will require reliable internet across park facilities. He said he has been in contact with Chariton Valley about providing that connectivity.

The director also briefed the board on recent park activity, saying shelters and playgrounds have been busy and that the May Get Outside program featured a Night Sky Scavenger Hunt. He announced the Stars and Stripes fireworks event is scheduled for dusk on July 3; the vendor had booked more than 50 vendors as of the report.

Board members raised concerns about the pickleball court; the transcript records the concerns but does not record a formal decision or next step. The board will continue to receive operational updates as staff advance the trail grant, software rollout and facility maintenance tasks.
