Velva auditor reports $152,391.41 deposit to Prairie Dog fund; state audits noted

Velva City Auditor Jenny Johns told the City Commission on March 17 that a deposit of $152,391.41 was made last week into the Prairie Dog fund, bringing the fund’s balance to $277,391.41.
Johns said the city used the entire prior fund balance last fall during a capital street improvement project. "The deposit made last week into the Prairie Dog fund of $152,391.41 bringing the total to $277,391.41," Johns said during the meeting.
Johns also presented the state's final audit report for 2019 and said the state is already working on 2020. Johns added she is working on the 2024 audit as time allows. Separately, City Assessor Bourdeau set a tax equalization meeting for April 8, 2025, at 2:00 p.m.; Johns noted a quorum will be needed to approve Bourdeau’s valuations and assessments at that meeting.
The commission’s next regular meeting is April 21 at 7:00 p.m.
