Velva city engineer Emma Lavachek told commissioners on Nov. 18 that the city submitted its Clean Water State Revolving Fund (SRF) application by the state deadline to preserve a potential grant or loan opportunity for water infrastructure work.
Lavachek also said the bridge project has been publicly advertised for bids, with a submission deadline set in mid-December. The engineer reported coordination with city staff on project timing and next steps for the bidding process.
Separately, Lavachek reported that the city mailed 500 mandatory notices to homeowners about lead and copper service lines as required for follow-up and potential remediation. Auditor Jenny Johns confirmed she worked with Lavachek and Wyche to send the letters.
In related administrative items, Johns said the city attorney confirmed the water plant road was properly dedicated and deeded in 2007. Commissioners also agreed to extend an appliance drop-off collection for residents to dispose of appliances and metal, and Vice President Dave Keller asked that staff consider reducing budget figures for the 2026 budget season.
