Turtle Lake votes to stop city snow removal for 133 Bar & Grill after resident complaint

A resident asked the Turtle Lake City Commission why the city was clearing snow for the building now operating as 133 Bar & Grill (formerly American Legion Post 133) while other businesses are responsible for their own snow removal. Commissioners said the building's change in use raised fairness concerns for businesses that must clear their own sidewalks and parking.
Commissioner Stacie Adams moved to cease city snow removal services for 133 Bar & Grill/American Legion Post 133; Commissioner Tim Britton seconded. The roll call vote was: For — Matt Lang, Stacie Adams, Tim Britton; Nay — Rick Schwalk. The motion passed.
The commission also discussed the possible sale of city-owned vacant lots on Kundert Street and Walnut Street (100 blocks). Staff will research tax values for those lots. Separately, an update on the Lincoln Drive property showed there were no offers of $7,400 or higher; the commission agreed to postpone decision-making on that sale for one month.
Other agenda items tied to property and equipment: a proposed purchase of Titan accessories for the city's payloader was discussed and tabled until February 2026, and a conversation about an ordinance for empty commercial buildings generated no action at this meeting.
The commission will revisit property-sale and ordinance matters at its next regular meeting on Feb. 9, 2026.
