Wahpeton board reviews staffing changes, school events and security upgrades

At its Oct. 8 meeting, the Wahpeton School Board heard a series of administrative reports covering personnel changes, school activities and facility and technology updates.
The Business Office reported it is drafting guiding principles for substitute teacher pay. The minutes list resignations for Kaleigh Mack (Nutrition Services float) and Miranda Grossman (WES administrative assistant) and new hires for Josette Rodriguez (Nutrition Services float) and Robin Boldt (WES administrative assistant). Open positions include a PM route bus driver (#9), a WES custodian, a 7th‑grade girls basketball coach, a weight‑room supervisor and substitutes for multiple positions.
School‑level updates: Zimmerman Elementary planned a quarter‑one ice cream party Oct. 14, staff professional development on Oct. 15, a Fire Safety Month visit to the Wahpeton fire station and parent/teacher conferences Oct. 27–28. Wahpeton Elementary held its WATCH DOG kickoff Oct. 6, will hold parent/teacher conferences Oct. 14 and will host a Book Character Parade on Halloween. The middle school reported students scored above the state average on spring ND A+ ELA and math assessments and has student‑led conferences Oct. 23; the high school reported Career Day on Oct. 1 and an anatomy/physiology hands‑on project.
Facilities notes included installation of new gym wall pads and the upcoming videoboard installation at Wahpeton High School. Technology staff said the district reformatted sixth‑grade devices, is pursuing preliminary approval for a Homeland Security Grant to fund exterior cameras and electronic door access at the high school, and is upgrading networks at the bus barn.
Curriculum and personnel discussions included makeup days/virtual instruction and the proposed 2026–27 school calendar; Dr. David Woods gave presentations on coaches education and mentoring. The board did not take formal votes on staffing or calendar items at this meeting.
