Wahpeton board adopts $18.66 million budget, sets $6.73 million levy

President Jake Kubela called the Wahpeton Public Schools Board to order on Sept. 10, and the board unanimously approved the district's 2025–2026 General Fund budget and tax levy. Board member Matt Dockter moved to adopt the $18,656,303.96 General Fund budget; Matt Vetter seconded and the motion carried 8-0.
Business Manager Alayna Halstensgaard presented the budget update before the vote, and the board also approved the 2025–2026 Certificate of Levy of $6,726,557.13 on a 8-0 vote following a motion from Michelle Nelson and second from Robb Dohman. Earlier in the meeting the board approved routine claims against the General Fund totaling $343,648.67 and Building Fund claims totaling $2,644.00.
The board also approved the 2024–2025 Year End School District Financial Report by motion of Matt Dockter and second of Kathy Dimmer, recorded as a unanimous approval. Superintendent Michael Kaiser presented information on the 2026 medical insurance renewal, which the board received but did not act on during the meeting.
The approvals were procedural and unanimous; no board member recorded a dissenting vote. The board set follow-up items and committee meetings to continue budget oversight as part of routine fiscal management.
