Lancaster council approves routine business, selects sidewalk option and OKs equipment purchases

Lancaster City Council on Feb. 10 handled routine business and approved several purchases and project steps, including selecting a sidewalk option under a TAPP grant, trading for a new city mower and approving funds for this year’s fireworks display.
The council approved the meeting agenda, the Jan. 13, 2025 minutes and the monthly bills by unanimous votes. On the TAPP sidewalk project, after reviewing two options the council voted 3-1 to select option B for the sidewalk in front of the House of Fashion. The council authorized trading the 2023 John Deere mower toward a 2025 John Deere Z930M ZTrak with a $2,590 trade difference and accepted a quote from Stateline Metals to install a 4-by-8 sign at Routes 63 and 136 for $1,000 plus $250 for posts.
The council also approved a $3,500 budget to purchase fireworks from J & M Fireworks and authorized purchasing a replacement computer and monitor for city operations. City staff outlined the CDBG bid schedule (ad Feb. 20, walk-through Feb. 26, bids due March 17, opening March 17). Councilman Kevin Buckallew said he would continue researching a storm siren and possible grant funding; he estimated the siren’s cost at about $25,000 and tabled further discussion. The meeting included a closed session called under RSMo §610.021(2) with recorded roll-call votes for entry and exit.
