Plan Commission tables 509 Ridge Drive after stop-work order; board discusses traffic safety near planned industrial expansion

The Village of Mazomanie’s administrator reported Feb. 10 that the Plan Commission recommended tabling action on 509 Ridge Drive because required materials were not available, and that a stop-work order had been issued on Jan. 21 for a violation of Zoning Ordinance 415-10(E) (Preservation of Topography).
Administrator Curt Erickson told the board the Plan Commission would meet Monday, Feb. 23 at 9:00 a.m. to consider 509 Ridge Drive, Plastic Ingenuity’s proposed expansion, and placement of a dumpster for the Looye Development. The tabling recommendation followed missing documentation needed for the commission’s review.
Erickson said the village is coordinating with the Department of Transportation to discuss lowering the speed limit further west near the village cemetery because of potential industrial expansions by Plastic Ingenuity and Cardinal Glass. He cited accident data showing eight reported incidents since 2023, three of which involved vehicle–deer collisions. Those data were provided to the village in coordination with the Dane County deputy.
A presentation on replacement fire apparatus by the Mazomanie Fire Department was scheduled for the meeting but was not delivered because Chief Camden Parman was unable to prepare the presentation in time.
The Plan Commission meeting on Feb. 23 will be the next opportunity for public review and potential action on the 509 Ridge Drive matter and related development questions. The minutes do not record any final board action on lowering the speed limit; Erickson described discussions with DOT as ongoing.
