Mazomanie board approves up to $1.5 million for fire apparatus replacements

The Mazomanie Village Board voted unanimously to authorize the Fire Department to purchase a ladder truck and/or a fire engine not to exceed $1,500,000.
Fire Chief Cam Parman presented two replacement scenarios: Option 1 would replace the ladder truck with a used unit (approximately 10–12 years old, estimated $600,000–$700,000) and replace the engine with a used unit (approximately 14 years old, estimated $150,000–$200,000). Option 2 would replace the ladder truck with a new unit (approximately $1,330,000) and replace the engine with a used unit (approximately $150,000–$200,000). Parman said he recommends staggering apparatus purchases to prevent overlapping replacement needs.
Brian Roemer of Ehlers briefly reviewed the financial effect to taxpayers if the $1.5 million allocation is included in the 2026 general obligation promissory note, saying taxpayers would still see a slight deduction from the 2025 tax rate for the village’s portion if the allocation is included. Justin Martinez moved to approve the request and Dawn Forseth seconded the motion; the vote was unanimous.
