Council denies outside-town taps, adds Reimink sewer request to special meeting

The Byron Town Council denied a prior request from property owner Mike Hernandez for three water taps because the property lies outside town limits and because trailers—apparently the intended structures—are not ordinarily acceptable in Byron. Council members said approval could set a precedent for utility access outside town boundaries. The council directed staff to provide a Rural Water Application to Mr. Hernandez and noted drilling a private well is an option.
During public comment Beau and Kirstin Reimink requested one new water tap (one per structure) and described existing sewer-line issues that include a lift at the back of the property and a line that runs across a neighbor’s property. Mayor Allan Clark said the public-comment period was not the appropriate time for detailed operational requests and added Mr. Reimink to a Special Meeting on May 26, 2026 at 7:00 p.m. for follow-up.
Council discussed sewer funding generally under New Business and opened a separate conversation about how much Town funding to commit to South Side Sewer work; Councilwoman Karma Sanders said that showing Town financial backing could improve the town's chance of securing outside funds, but no specific town-dollar commitment was made.
