State recommends 'Do Not Fund' for Byron raw-water study; town faces multimillion-dollar gap

Mayor Allan Clark summarized the results of a Wyoming Water Development Commission (WWDC) zoom meeting during the May 12 Byron Town Council meeting, reporting the WWDC issued a 'Do Not Fund' recommendation for the Byron Raw Water Supply Study. Mayor Clark said the State indicated the Town might be required to fund approximately $3.5 million of the project.
Councilman Shae Abraham asked where the value was derived from; Mayor Clark relayed that the State Engineer proposed an estimated project cost of $4.3 million and that only a portion would be covered by the state. Mayor Clark also said that J-U-B consultant Brian Deter suggested in a phone conversation that a Bureau of Reclamation grant might open later in the year and the town will explore that and other funding options for raw water improvements and ditches.
Council did not take any formal vote on the raw-water study financing at the May 12 meeting, but members discussed that showing some Town financial backing could improve the town's chances to secure funding or additional funding for sewer and water projects.
