The Melrose-Mindoro School Board on April 27 authorized an estimated $34,500 in vaporizer repairs and reviewed facility-use procedures after a Melrose Fire Department representative raised emergency-access concerns.
The motion to hire Energys USA for vaporizer repairs was moved by Jamie Waughtal, seconded by Emily Stanton, and carried 6-0. The repair estimate was presented to the board as $34,500.
During public comment Tim Kunes, representing the Melrose Fire Department, told the board that parking during hosted events can obstruct emergency access to school grounds and said he would work with Buildings & Grounds Director Dan Stetzer to implement a plan to ensure 24/7 access. Mr. Kunes asked that the plan be in place prior to fall; the transcript records no formal board motion or timeline requiring implementation.
District staff — including Athletic Director Lindsay Rozek, 7–12 Principal Richard Dobbs and Buildings & Grounds Director Dan Stetzer — described current procedures for issuing keys and fobs and said updates are in progress to reflect a coaching staff made up more of non-teachers. A Facility Use policy will be brought back after NEOLA review.
The board’s facility decisions and the planned policy update are intended to balance access for community users with building security and emergency access needs.
