Committee hears progress updates on middle-school roof, gym work and other projects

Committee members discussed sequencing the work to avoid classroom disruption. Staff said a goal remains to have contractors out of core classroom areas by the start of school while permitting work in other roof areas that can be scheduled around school operations. The group flagged foam insulation as a potential long-lead item and noted rain, extreme heat and unforeseen demolition (for example, water-damaged structural members) as possible causes for schedule or cost impacts.
On smaller projects, the OPM update covered recent pay applications and RFIs: Jensen Hughes provided responses to contractor RFIs and staff reported a roughly $9,000 credit tied to town permits on the job-cost summary and a change in the builder's-risk line item (builder's-risk figure referenced in discussion). Gym work was reported to run from the 7th through the 17th, with the auditorium and kitchen to follow. Committee members suggested targeted additions such as protective covers for sprinkler heads and sensitive equipment using modest savings; staff said the contractor will be asked for proposals if the committee directs it.
Separately, asbestos 9-by-9 tile removal in older school areas is underway with tiling and remediation planned next, and Hopkins Hill paving is expected late this month using impact-fee funds after the committee accepted the low bid.
The meeting closed with routine scheduling discussion; staff will circulate any updated contractor schedules and follow up by email if status changes.
