Lancaster council meeting roundup: routine approvals, staff reports and several items tabled

At its March 17 meeting the Lancaster City Council handled routine business, received staff reports on public works and safety, and tabled several procurement and finance items for later consideration.
Council approved the agenda, the Feb. 10 minutes (with a correction to "Nutrition Site"), and the monthly bills and financial reports by unanimous 4-0 votes. City employee George Reindel reported that Green Construction is progressing on lead-and-copper work and that staff are pursuing a sewer grant with the Missouri Department of Natural Resources. Jimmy McNary said crews are replacing meters that have failed or that have registered more than a million gallons.
Councilman Kevin Buckallew reported the Fire Department has been busy amid dry weather and noted the department purchased a 2006 Ford F550 truck. Paul Reynolds raised a request to coordinate with conservation officials to stun fish for a population count and flagged maintenance needs at the Spencer Lake dam. Cole Tippett said the TAPP grant is in final stages and he has been coordinating with the Missouri Department of Transportation. Kevin Buckallew said he is documenting street needs and will solicit bids for rock/mix next month; Tommy Roberts said he has been working on grants.
On other items the council heard a request from Nutrition Site representatives (Darla Campbell and Dale Vandike) that the city assist in moving an old Food Room building; the council noted "Sherry" is still reviewing the contract and tabled further action. Discussion about replacing a JD mower led council members to request bids for a new brush cutter for the tractor and to table the mower purchase. The council also discussed opening two six-month certificates of deposit (CDs) but tabled that item.
The council announced its next regular meeting will be April 14, 2025, at 7 p.m. at Lancaster City Hall, 209 Washington St., and adjourned at 8:54 p.m.
