Merrimac Board approves $79,146.29 SDWLP disbursement, forms hiring committee; WISDOT installs new 30 mph signs

At the April 8 meeting, the Village of Merrimac Board of Trustees approved a SDWLP (SDWLP Disbursement Request No. 6) payment of $79,146.29, formed a hiring committee to replace a retiring operator, and acknowledged several public-safety and community items raised during public input.
Administrator/Clerk/Treasurer Jennie Klecker presented the SDWLP disbursement request; Trustees Andrew Gallus and Stan Senger moved to approve the request and the motion carried on a unanimous vote. The Board also selected members for a hiring committee to replace long-time operator Derrick Peetz, with Andrew Gallus, Justin Schultz (DPW), Jennie Klecker and Margaret Budde named to the committee; the group will meet in May to prepare a job description and hiring schedule.
On public-safety concerns, resident Scott Anderson urged the Board to reduce the speed limit on Lake View Avenue to 15 mph because the subdivision has grown and more children are living in the area. President Gallus said safety is a top priority and will place the topic on the May Village Board agenda. Separately, DPW Justin Schultz reported that WISDOT has installed new speed-limit signs changing the village limit from 35 to 30 mph and that new speed radar signs will be installed the following week.
Mike Cummings asked the Board to consider amending the fence ordinance to allow a six-foot height; the Board agreed to review the ordinance and place the matter on the May agenda. Trustee Stan Senger reported that the DNR has approved the plan to replace the groundwater monitoring well at the wastewater treatment plant; the Village will work with Strand to seek bids in May. President Gallus and Administrator Klecker administered the Oath of Office to newly elected Trustee Collin Bourgeois, re-elected Trustee Nate Taylor, appointed Trustee Margaret Budde, and re-elected President Andrew Gallus. The meeting adjourned at 6:47pm.
