Merrimac trustees authorize monitoring-well planning, SDWLP disbursement and approve project-related purchases

Trustee Stan Senger reported that Strand Associates will be asked for a cost estimate to prepare a work plan for installing a new monitoring well at the wastewater treatment plant (WWTP). Senger also said he had contacted the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources for feedback on potential test-site locations for a future Municipal Well No. 2. The Board authorized Administrator Jennie Klecker to approve up to $3,500 for Strand to draft the monitoring-well work plan if the estimate is received before the next board meeting.
Administrator Klecker reported that SDWLP (State Drinking Water Loan Program) disbursement No. 4 was requested in the amount of $174,054.71 to pay Mid-City for Well House work and reimburse the Village for additional project costs. The Board approved that disbursement request as recorded in the minutes.
DPW Justin Schultz updated trustees on Well House No. 1 (Mid-City to install windows, soffit and fascia) and said geotechnical borings on School Street showed an underlying base course of 16 to 18 inches. The Board approved buying Aquafix for $2,400 to aid WWTP performance during cold months.
Separately, the Board approved three resolutions: Resolution 2024-11-01 (exceeding the state-imposed levy for post-2005 general obligation debt service), Resolution 2024-11-02 (PILOT) and Resolution 2024-11-03 (exceeding the state-imposed levy for Merrimac Fire & Rescue cost increase); all motions passed unanimously.
These actions advance engineering and payment steps for ongoing water-system work and record the Board's short-term budgetary decisions.
