WISDOT orders lower speeds through Merrimac; trustees buy radar speed signs

The Village received formal notice from the Wisconsin Department of Transportation that within Merrimac most 35 mph zones will be reduced to 30 mph and the existing 25 mph zone will be extended to Lake Street. New regulatory signs are expected to be installed in March or April 2025.
At the Nov. 12 meeting Administrator Jennie Klecker presented updated quotes for radar speed signs. Decker Supply agreed to honor a 2023 quote of $4,125 per unit; the Board approved purchasing two radar speed signs with Streetsmart Data Collection Software on a Gallus/Budde motion.
The combination of regulatory sign changes from WISDOT and village-owned radar signs is intended to both lower posted speeds and give the Village data to monitor traffic patterns. The Board recorded the purchase motion as unanimous.
