At its Oct. 23 meeting the Merrimac Plan Commission reviewed the existing zoning map (prepared by MSA in 2015) and discussed changes intended to encourage both business and residential development. Commission members noted several parcels currently zoned business that have functioned as single-family residences for decades and said the community lacks R-2 (two-family) and R-3 (multi-family) residential zones.
Commissioners explored options including outreach to comparable communities and engaging a village planning consultant. Members reviewed and updated the action plan and assigned stakeholders for follow-up items. Commission Member Collin Bourgeois will continue working on draft edits with the goal of completing the updated comprehensive plan document by the end of the year.
