Candidate for 40th Assembly introduced; Varsity Club owner proposes residential conversion

At the Oct. 8 Village Board meeting, Cheryl Anderson introduced Karen DeSanto, who is running for the redistricted 40th Assembly District seat being vacated by retiring Representative Dave Considine. DeSanto introduced herself to the Board and attendees but made no request requiring Board action.
Bob Garrison addressed the Board during public input urging that the Village ensure strong internal control measures if it plans to forego an annual audit this year.
Joe Krasovec, the current owner of the old Varsity Club, described unexpected obstacles to planned renovations: the building's high elevation increases the cost of redesigning an entrance that would meet current Americans with Disabilities Act requirements. Krasovec asked whether the Board would be open to converting the building into a private residence; President Andrew Gallus replied that any zoning changes would first be reviewed by the Plan Commission. Krasovec said he will present a more detailed proposal to the Plan Commission at a future meeting.
