Merrimac board votes to forego annual audit, hires village accountant and adds funds for radar sign

The Village of Merrimac Board of Trustees voted to forgo its annual financial audit for 2024 and instead hire village accountant Robin Meier to file the Form C and the Public Service Commission report.
At the meeting, Trustee Andrew Gallus and Trustee Margaret Budde moved to forgo the audit and retain Robin Meier for accountant duties; the motion passed unanimously. Trustee Bob Garrison had earlier warned the Board to ensure strong internal controls if the Village chose to skip the external audit.
The Board also approved several operational expenditures: they authorized up to $2,000 to replace wastewater treatment plant weir plates to reduce pump wear after heavy rain, and they authorized Administrator Jennie Klecker to spend up to approximately $3,000 to renew two firewall licenses and upgrade hardware (a promotion cited $1,193 per license).
During budget review the Board decided to add $4,500 to the proposed 2025 budget to purchase a radar speed-limit sign for the Village. Administrator Klecker will collect quotes for radar signs as a next step.
