West Bath board elects new leadership and approves committee roster

At its November organizational meeting, the West Bath Public Schools Board of Directors elected new leadership and approved its 2024–25 committee rosters.
The board named a new presiding chair and elected Joanne Powers as vice chair after voice votes. The newly presiding chair thanked outgoing members and said she was ‘‘incredibly nervous’’ but looked forward to working with the board.
The vote also approved standing committee assignments for facilities, finance, policy, negotiations and wellness council, and established a new ad hoc tuition-agreement committee to gather information ahead of any negotiations. Board members said the ad hoc group would help the district prepare if the town authorizes the school board to negotiate tuition contracts for grades 6–12.
The superintendent described the procedural steps required for a town-authorized vote on negotiating tuition agreements, including a public hearing and selectmen review. He outlined a timeline the board discussed: finalize the warrant article at the board’s Dec. 18 meeting, have the article reviewed by the board of selectmen on Dec. 19, hold the public hearing on Jan. 2 and, if timelines hold, a town meeting on Jan. 16.
The board moved and approved the committee roster by voice vote. Board members who spoke said community feedback and a clear timeline were important to allow neighboring districts adequate time to plan for student enrollments and budgeting.
The board will next meet Dec. 18 at 6 p.m. at the Espos School.
