Merton board approves contract increase for Burke truck, election workers and an outdoor event; holds closed session

At its March 9 meeting the Town of Merton board handled a set of routine motions and one bid/contract update. The board approved a slate of additional election workers for the 2026–2027 cycle, authorized an outdoor event for the Valley Rod and Gun Club and approved a contract increase to $141,725 for Burke Truck equipment ordered in 2024. All motions were reported in the minutes as "motion carried."
DPW Director Paul Griffin presented the revised Burke Truck equipment cost and said the updated total is $141,725. The motion to approve the updated contract was made by Jim Fleming and seconded by Jim Olson and carried. A motion to approve the outdoor event for the Valley Rod and Gun Club was made by Jim Fleming, seconded by John Krogmann, and carried. Clerk Donna Hann presented a list of election workers who completed training and the board approved adding them for 2026–2027 on a motion by Jim Olson and seconded by John Krogmann.
Immediately following regular business the board met in closed session by roll-call vote under State Statute 19.85(1)(e) to "consider deliberating or negotiating the purchasing of public properties, the investing of public funds, or conducting other specified public business, whenever competitive or bargaining reasons require closed session." The roll call in the minutes recorded Tim Klink, Jim Fleming, Jim Olson and John Krogmann voting yes; Don Herrick was listed as absent. The board later reconvened to open session; the minutes record no action taken after the closed session.
